Silvanidae, "coléoptères plats d'écorce de silvan", est une famille de coléoptères dans la superfamille Cucujoidea, se composant de 58 genres décrits et d'environ 500 espèces décrites. La famille est représentée sur tous les continents à l'exception de l'Antarctique, et elle est la plus diversifiée au niveau générique et au niveau des espèces dans les tropiques du Vieux Monde.
Les Silvanidae sont généralement de petits coléoptères brunâtres, aplatis, pubescents et densément perforés d'une longueur de 1,2 à 15 mm, et la plupart du temps avec une formule tarsale de 5-5-5. Ils ont des antennes courtes, fortement matraquées, à très allongées, et fréquemment des sillons ou des carènes sur la tête et / ou le pronotum. De nombreux genres ont les marges latérales du pronotum dentées ou denticulées. La famille est divisée de manière inégale en deux sous-familles: Brontinae et Silvaninae. Les Brontinae, réparties en deux tribus (Brontini et Telephanini) de 10 genres chacune, sont des coléoptères plus gros, avec de longues antennes, un sillage particulièrement allongé, des organes génitaux inversés et des mycangues mandibulaires. Les deux tribus brontines ont été récemment examinées au niveau du genre. Les Silvaninae, qui n'ont pas été divisés en tribus, sont constitués de 48 genres de coléoptères, pour la plupart plus petits, caractérisés par des cavités procoxales fermées, la plupart sans mycangie mandibulaire, et des organes génitaux masculins non inversés.
Les genres les plus importants sont Telephanus (109 espèces), Psammoecus (81 espèces) et Cryptamorpha (27 espèces) (tous Brontinae: Telephanini) et le genre silvainine Airaphilus du Vieux Monde (35 espèces). Il y a eu un certain nombre d'études taxonomiques importantes chez les Silvanidae au cours des dernières décennies.

Des recherches sur les relations phylogénétiques au sein de la famille et entre les Silvanidae et d'autres Cucujoidea en sont aux étapes préliminaires. Une analyse phylogénétique des cucujoïdes «primitifs» utilisant les caractères morphologiques des larves et des adultes a trouvé une relation étroite entre les Silvanidae et les Cucujidae. Une étude phylogénétique moléculaire visant principalement à clarifier le statut des cucujoïdes les plus «avancés» incluait néanmoins des exemples de taxons basaux. Il a montré une relation étroite entre Passandridae et Silvanidae, et une plus lointaine avec Cucujidae.

Biologie et habitats
Bien que tous les Silvanidae semblent être principalement fongivores, l'habitat où se trouvent les différents taxons varie.
